Gary provides therapy and counseling for individuals, couples, children,

backgrounds, beliefs, and treatment issues.
Including:
  • teen issues & development
  • trauma & PTSD
  • dream analysis
  • gay & lesbian developmental issues
  • alcohol/drug evaluations (dui,
    employer request, court-ordered, etc.)
  • alcohol abuse & alcoholism
  • codependency & adult children of
    alcoholics
  • Sexual Addiction (as well as other
    behavioral addictions)
  • grief & loss
  • depression
  • life transitions (empty nest, mid-
    life crisis, relocation, etc)
  • emotional development
  • children/teens of abuse and
    trauma (death, abuse,
    illness, adoption, divorce,
    etc.)
  • relationship counseling
    (premarital, infidelity, divorce,
    step/blended families,
    remarriage, GLBT, etc.)
First and foremost, Gary's approach to psychotherapy is direct,
engaging, down-to-earth, and heartfelt.

Theoretically, Gary's approach originates both in experiential and
depth
psychology; using
analytical and archetypal foundations for growth and
change.  Experiential therapy (not to be confused with experimental
therapy) is an approach to psychotherapy that balances theory with
action, or put another way, it combines the human connection between
therapist and client with knowledge and experience.  A good experiential
therapist is emotionally present with their clients and use, among others
things, this
human connection and relationship with clients as a catalyst
for deep revelation, insight, and change.

The emotional intensity within a therapeutic relationship allows for the
re-experiencing of past and current emotions.  Once these emotions are
present the therapist can help guide the client through processing them in
a way that brings relief and change in their life.  Our overall goal is to
release and free ourselves from these emotions, no longer allowing them
to play themselves out in our relationships, careers, physical health, etc.

However, with that said, the approach used with each client can and
does vary considerably.  Gary works to meet each client where they are
individually first and adjusts his theory and techniques accordingly.

Adult Individual Psychotherapy:
Through an evaluation of past experiences, reoccurring themes, self-
defeating beliefs and behaviors we can begin to construct a healthy
balance in life.  Yet many times the most useful individual therapy
sessions are those where Gary uses a mixture of coaching and
collaborative problem-solving techniques.

Child Therapy: While a similar approach to child and adolescent
psychotherapy is used, as with adults, a heavier influence on altering
thinking and feeling is used in changing behavior and increasing self-
esteem; this is primarily accomplished through expressive, art, and other
types of play therapy.
Play therapy is generally employed with children
ages 3 to 11, and  provides a way for children to express their
experiences and feelings through a natural, non-intrusive, healing
process. As children’s experiences and knowledges are often
communicated through play, it becomes an important vehicle for them
know and accept themselves and others.

Adolescent Therapy: Working with adolescents requires a different
approach and set of rules all-together.  Building rapport and gaining
trust are the most crucial elements, without which therapy is virtually
useless, if not harmful.  Whether the issues are pertaining to depression,
trauma, anger, or acting-out the approach is the same.  Helping a teen
uncover his/her sense of self, find their voice, and a means of
appropriately communicating their voice can offer relief not only for
teens, but also for the entire family.

Couples/Relationship Therapy: Gary implores a wide rage of
communication building and language altering techniques with couples
to help guide them through rough transitions and towards restructuring
their relationship.  The relationship involved may be between members of
a family, spouses, couples, employees or employers in a workplace, or
between a professional and a client, etc. Regardless, Gary offers a venue
for all persons involved to find insight and relief to issues that may have
been blocking the relationship from continuing.  Learn more about
